» » » » Stephane Courtois is one of the great historians of communism. A student and disciple of Annie Kriegel, he leads the Magazine “Communisme” and is a researcher with the CNRS – Paris. He co-ordinated the Black Book of Communism, which was tremendously successful (one million copies in 26 languages), determining and measuring the criminal role of red totalitarianism that has ninety million victims. The continuation of the Black Book of Communism, Du passé faisons table rase, recently published in Paris, is a compendium of prefaces and addendum of national editions (among which that to the Romanian edition printed in 1998). Stephane Courtois was for the fourth time the rector of the Sighet Summer School. Moreover, he is a member in the Scientific Council of the International Center for Studies on Communism (which prepares the Sighet Memorial) and, at the same time, a great friend of the Civic Academy where he has been contributing from its very beginnings. Courtois delivered this conference on the premises of the Civic Academy during his short stay in Bucharest, on his way to Sighet where he lead the sixth edition of the Summer School. Stephane Courtois vorbind în cadrul conferinţeiStéphane Courtois est l’un des grands historiens du communisme. Etudiant et disciple d’Annie Kriegel, il dirige la revue Communisme et il est chercheur à CNRS – Paris. Il a coordonné Le livre noir du communisme, qui a bénéficié d’un succès retentissant. Imprimé à un million d’exemplaires, en 26 langues, ce livre dénonce le rôle criminel du totalitarisme rouge, responsable de quatre-vingt-dix millions de victimes. Sa continuation, intitulée Du passé faisons table rase, est récemment parue à Paris et comprend une anthologie des préfaces et des addendas des éditions nationales (dont l’édition roumaine, parue en 1998). Stéphane Courtois a été, pour la quatrième fois, recteur de l’Ecole d’Ete de Sighet, membre du Conseil Scientifique du Centre International d’Etudes sur le Communisme, qui organise le Mémorial Sighet, et un grand ami de la Fondation Academia Civica, dont il est, dès la création, le collaborateur. Lors de sa brève escale bucarestoise, en route vers Sighet, où il a dirigé les travaux de la sixième édition de l’Ecole d’Eté, Courtois a prononcé au siège de l’Academia Civica la conférence A QUOI SERT L’HISTOIRE DANS LE POSTCOMMUNISME.

Le rôle du Mémorial et de l’Ecole d’Ete de Sighet. Le livre Courtois à Sighet comprend les conférences et les dialogues de Courtois, le long des quatre visites qu’il a rendues au Mémorial Sighet et au Centre d’Etudes de Bucarest.
